Lemon Basil Seed Drink

A refreshing beverage that combines the citrus brightness of lemon with the floral aroma of basil seeds, perfect for hydration and managing cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon basil seeds
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 4 cups cold or sparkling water
  • 12 teaspoons sweetener to taste (honey, maple syrup, or calorie-free sweetener)
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Fresh mint or basil leaves (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Measure and soak the basil seeds. Put 1 tablespoon of basil seeds into a small bowl and add 1/2 cup of warm water; let them sit for 5 to 10 minutes until plump and gelatinous.
  2. Prepare the lemon mixture. In a large pitcher, combine 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice with 4 cups of cold water and 1 to 2 teaspoons of sweetener; stir until dissolved.
  3. Combine seeds and liquid. Add the soaked basil seeds into the pitcher and stir gently so they distribute evenly throughout the liquid.
  4. Chill and set. Refrigerate the drink for at least 15 minutes so flavors meld and the temperature drops.
  5. Garnish and serve. Pour into glasses, add a few ice cubes, and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or basil for aroma.

Notes

Great served chilled; adjust sweetness to preference and try with sparkling water for added fizz.
