Indulge in the rich, luxurious flavors of Turtle Caramel Cake, featuring a moist chocolate base layered with sweet caramel, creamy condensed milk, and crunchy pecans.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup caramel sauce or 14 oz caramel candies melted with 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup additional caramel sauce for topping
  • Optional: Whipped cream, extra chopped pecans, and chocolate drizzle

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter by combining the cake mix with the eggs, vegetable oil, and water as per package instructions.
  3. Pour half of the prepared cake batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.
  4. Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the first batter layer, allowing it to soak slightly.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped pecans evenly over the caramel layer for added texture and flavor.
  6. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the toppings, spreading it gently for even coverage.
  7. Carefully spread the remaining cake batter over the filling layer, aiming to cover it as evenly as possible.
  8. Place the cake in the oven and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted near the edge comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool slightly in the pan.
  10. Drizzle the additional caramel sauce over the top of the cake. Garnish with extra pecans, a chocolate drizzle, or whipped cream if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Tip: Ensure that you spread the batter gently over the filling to prevent mixing. For an extra chocolatey experience, consider adding more chocolate chips. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
